The Gelman Collection, originally formed by Jacques & Natasha Gelman, is a premier private art assembly featuring iconic 20th-century Mexican modern art, including masterpieces by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Rufino Tamayo.
The Controversy
The controversy centers on legal challenges and public backlash against Mexican cultural authorities over a long-term agreement allowing famous, legally protected art treasures to tour abroad to Spain and further afield, without transparency or guarantees.
